SESSION 1 10.15
ABSTRACT: Meaningful numbers
Spheres, cyls, axes, prisms and adds are all figures that most optical assistants have to deal with. What do those numbers mean? For optometrists and dispensing opticians, reading a prescription is as easy as reading text on a page — it has instant meaning. To the trained eye, the numbers can be visualised, whether in the form of spectacles or contact lenses, and the vision with or without correction is understood.
Optical assistants also need to be bilingual in the language of ‘the Rx’! In this first session, prescriptions are discussed to develop a good working knowledge and context of the range seen in practice. Prescriptions provide key information with walk-ins or over-the-phone enquiries, which with knowledgeable staff can translate into spectacle sales and new contact lens wearers.
SESSION 2 14.30
ABSTRACT: Developing lasting customer relationships: The OA role
The finale of a consultation is when the spectacles and/or contact lenses are collected. There are many facets to the final delivery; and in most cases this is judgement day.
How is this important delivery managed in the practice?
What is the checking procedure to ensure the goods supplied are those requested on the order?
When can the goods be collected?
Who is involved in fitting spectacles and what systems are in place for supplying contact lenses?
This interactive session will review a range of approaches and the importance of leaving a lasting positive impression will live long in the memory of all delegates attending this session.
