Independent retail entrepreneur Laura Tenison MBE will be opening this years conference under the theme ‘Focus on Detail for Successful Retail’. As previously reported iDay is to be held on Monday 6th November following the National Eye Care (NEG) Conference and has moved venue to the RICOH Arena in Coventry.
Laura is the founder and Managing Director of JoJo Maman Bebe, which she has grown organically from its start-up in 1993. An enormously successful company and one of the UK's most prominent retail outlets, it has become the UK's foremost niche multi-channel specialist in the pregnancy and baby market.
With start up capital of just £50,000, Laura has grown the company to a forecast growth turnover of £50M in the current financial year and employs over 700 people. The company, now with 60 stores nationwide, continues to expand both organically in the UK and via trade sales to over 60 countries across the world. With the multi-currency website, social networking platforms, UK and USA websites, 200 page catalogue and 60 stores across the UK, JoJo offers a truly multi-channel service.
PTR Managing Director Nick added, “Following the success of last years ‘How to be a Retail Champion’ theme, delegate feedback was to delve a bit deeper into some of the subjects covered. And with the vast majority of independents relying on the bulk of their income being derived by retail product sales, we wanted to continue to delve into what being a successful optical retailer means nowadays. Laura is an inspirational business and motivational speaker who addresses women's groups, business conferences and networking events in the UK and internationally; she will undoubtedly be a fantastic opening to this years iDay.”
Following the success of last year’s alliance, Independents Day will once again follow the free-to-attend NEG Conference on Sunday 5th November. The customary iShow exhibition will run across both events.
